When All Else Fails . . .

I’m running a little late this morning. Well, later than usual. 🙂

Here’s the reason why. I’ve been doing a little blog play. I finally figured out how to put images of my books on the sidebar of my blog. (I’m a slow learner.) Why, you ask, did I suddenly decide I had to get them there?

I listened to a legitimate tutorial about how to use SEO and plugins and keywords and thought, “If all that can be done, I should at least be able to put my books in my sidebar.

My mama used to say, “When all else fails, read the directions.” So I did.

It’s on the left over there. What do you think?

Why it is some people can figure out all kinds of things without directions–how to put together a bicycle, replace a transmission, add pictures to a blog, plot a book from beginning to end–and I need someone to show me how with nearly everything?

Winner, Winner, But Not a Chicken Dinner

Congratulations, Beth of E. Lizard Breath Speaks blog won the drawing for my book.

I gave her a choice–

To School a Cowboy

Blind Sight

Beth chose Blind Sight. 🙂 I’ll be sending it to her today.

For those of you who are terribly disappointed because you didn’t win (That’s what all the wailing I hear is about. Right?) you can order my books (paperback or Kindle form) from The Wild Rose Press or from Amazon.

Okay, commercial over. 😉 More about Beth.

047_biggerThis picture is from Beth’s twitter page.

She from a Small Town World in Virginia, and loves to travel all over. Her blog is full of pictures of places she’s visited. She and her hubby of eight years love to take the scenic route through Small World America.

She and her husband love kayaking. That could makes me a tad jealous. Wouldn’t it be cool to vaca with a kayak and a camera to see how many streams and rivers you could get down?

She enjoys movies and reading and funny stories and decorating and baking and crafting and making people laugh.

She started blogging in order to “meet new folks, bloggers, people from Virginia. folks that I have something in common with–likes and dislikes.”

Beth writes, “my purpose … I really like folks to lighten up their lives … giggle, be silly & laugh. Not take things so seriously. I like to uplift (lift up) folks & make them smile. Life is so stressful normally I think blogging is meant for fun & entertainment. I do at times take on the serious side of things but I prefer the lighter side.”

I think we might be related. LOL.

Beth, I’ve enjoyed “meeting” you (and everyone who signed up for the contest.) Hope you enjoy Blind Sight!

Kreativ Blogger Award

Yesterday I received this:

Isn’t it pretty? It came from another blogger. Her blog is RELYING DAILY ON JESUS.

Thank you, Kim S!

I don’t know Kim, and since I’d never heard of Kreativ Blogger Award, I googled it. (I knew if I didn’t, my sons would so I might as well.)

Here’s what I found– It’s not really an award. It’s more of a pat-on-the-back-chain letter. Each person who receives the nomination is supposed:

  • Thank the nominator. (Thanks again, Kim!)
  • Put the logo on their blog. (It is very pretty, isn’t it?)
  • Link to the person who nominated you.
  • Tell seven things about yourself that others might find interesting. Oy. I’m not sure there are seven things about me I don’t blog about on a regular basis. Hm.
  1. I’m double jointed.
  2. Double jointed isn’t really having two joints. It’s loose ligaments holding the joints together. (I think)
  3. I used to be able to join my hands together, step through my arms, bring them up behind me and over my head to where they started.
  4. I’ve never worked in a freak show at the circus.
  5. I had to have shoulder surgery several years ago. (The reward for being double jointed.)
  6. Being double jointed isn’t as fun as it sounds.
  7. I can whistle through my teeth.
  • Nominate other blogs.
  1. Literally Delicious (fantastic recipes and great stories by one of the best writers I know.)
  2. A Big Story to Tell (she really does.)
  3. Knitting with Olof.

So there you go. 🙂 Go forth and be creative–er–Kreativ.

What Do YOU Think?

So, how do you like my blog’s new look?

Once in a while I get tired of the same old thing, so I took a little look around. It’s been some time since I checked out their themes, so I delved. 🙂 So! Much! Fun!

This is one of WordPress’s freebies. I’ve thought about buying one, because they’re supposed to have so much more you can do, but I don’t know if I’d have the ability to use it. So for now, anyway, I’m sticking with free.

So instead of the clean white background I had before, now I have this pretty fallish looking background for my posts. The look of hand sketching around the page makes me smile.

So . . . what do you think?

Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Three Steps to Picture Coolness

Look what I found. I didn’t know this was possible, but while I was playing learning more about this blog, I discovered this about pictures on WordPress.

If you download several, you can make them a slideshow. I didn’t know it was so easy!

It’s probably been a choice since the beginning, but if I didn’t know, maybe someone else doesn’t know. Here’s how:

1- Go up to Upload/Insert (at the top of where you’re entering your post) and click that first little framed square. (Hover your cursor over it and it says, “add an image.”)

2- Add several images. I keep them on my computer because I haven’t figured out how to do it from flicker. When I do, I’ll share. Or maybe someone will explain it to me. (Please!)

3- When you have all the pictures you want in the slideshow, go to the gallery and at the very (very!) bottom, click insert slideshow.

4- Now all you have to do is Enjoy! It’s really that easy.

Oops, that’s four steps. Sorry. 8)
